Recent updates - September 2024

It's the back-to-school season in the Northern Hemisphere and the team has been working hard on some brand new functionality to help schools boost well-being and build positive relationships with students.

Report an incident or concern

Available now

The team is very excited to announce that the brand new version of our report a concern feature is now live! This feature has undergone a significant transformation, with a brand new look and enhanced functionality. Building on some of the functionality we added earlier in the year, such as staff reports and the new overview, we've now added a number of new features to make it even easier to manage and respond to reports.

When a member of staff with appropriate permissions visits the feature, they'll be presented with a list of reports. Each report can be clicked on to see further details of the submission, including more information about the student who submitted the report. Reports can now be assigned to individual staff members, chosen from a list of those with appropriate permissions. When a staff member is assigned, they'll receive an email notification letting them know they need to take action. Notes can be kept within a report, providing detailed case histories, including when the status of an incident changed or someone was assigned. This makes it easy to look back in the future at how a report was dealt with.

We're also excited to bring our concern reporting functionality to our iOS and Android apps, making it even easier for students to let schools know if they have a concern.

We believe that these changes will enable schools to keep a closer eye on student wellbeing, and we have lots more wellbeing functionality planned for 2024.

Point-demerit ratios

Available now

Sometimes it's easy to fall into a pattern of awarding lots of demerits and forgetting to highlight the positive things that students do. Research shows that this can have a really negative effect on a student's intrinsic motivation and can damage relationships.

We've been doing a lot of reading recently, and one simple rule stood out for us - the 5:1 rule. It's a simple best-practice approach that encourages at least 5 positive interactions for every 1 negative interaction, and we knew that we wanted to help schools with this.

Our new point-demerit ratio feature is now live and we've enabled it by default, though you can turn this off in site settings. It will highlight ratios in the demerit overview (staff and student tabs) and staff profile (demerits tab), giving teachers and school leaders a way to reflect on the frequency of positive to negative interactions happening within the school.

Veracross integration improvements

Available now

We've continued to extend our support for Veracross data within Epraise, and over the last few months, we've added support for Alerts, Timetables, and Attendance data.

Medical, family, academic, and general alerts will now be available on our seating plans, student details, overviews, exports, and more. This is extremely helpful for teachers when getting to know their students using the seating plan, and also for analyzing data on our overviews as school leaders.

Timetables, attendance data, and contact data have been added to the student profiles, providing more insight into a student within Epraise. Parents will also be able to see the timetable and attendance data if you've chosen to add them to your site.

Other notable improvements

Available now

As always, we've been working on a long list of smaller incremental improvements - here are some examples:

  • We've added the ability for schools to manually upload student photos for students not synchronized via Wonde.
  • We've improved the user experience of student bios in various ways.
  • We've added a new filter to enhance activity listings, making it easier to select activities.
  • We've introduced a brand new point/demerit category editor on the site settings page.
  • We've added an option for schools to display point and demerit sub-category graphs.
  • We've added content searching to Messenger, with searches now highlighting if more results might be available.
  • We've introduced a new quick-message feature on the student view contacts pages.
  • We've added support for the new UK DfE attendance changes, including three-character codes.
  • We've added an optional comment field to nominated prize draws.
  • We've added color coding for student indicators throughout the site.
  • We've improved attendance code labeling across the site.
  • We've updated our strict password settings.
  • We've allowed admins to use invites more frequently.
  • And much more!
